Can calcium carbonate and other fillers be added for the flame - retardancy of artificial plants?

Can calcium carbonate and other fillers be added for the flame - retardancy of artificial plants?

Generally, it is not recommended to add calcium carbonate filler. Others are okay, but they also need to be added in an appropriate amount.

There are data showing that when the flame - retardant masterbatch is used on products with calcium carbonate filler, the flame - retardant effect is greatly reduced.

Our company's analysis found that there are mainly the following reasons:

  1. The "wick effect" of the filler improves the thermal conductivity of the plastic, increases the internal temperature of the plastic, intensifies the decomposition of the plastic, and releases more volatile combustible substances.
  2. The filler increases the viscosity of the plastic and reduces the heat carried away by the plastic flow and dripping, especially for 94ULV2 - V1 grade products.
  3. Calcium carbonate, silica, and glass fiber fillers in plastics can affect the microstructure of the polymer, form nucleating agents in the plastic, and have a "wick effect" to intensify combustion.
  4. Due to the existence of calcium carbonate, countless micropores are formed during the rapid expansion and gasification of the polymer material during combustion, which greatly increases the surface area of the combustible material in contact with oxygen, enables more combustible materials to participate in combustion, and further increases the temperature of the ignition area, which is more conducive to the expansion and gasification of the combustible material.

However, through in - depth research and experiments, Hangzhou Jinwei Nanomi has invented a flame - retardant masterbatch specifically for artificial plants. After adding this masterbatch, calcium carbonate can be added as a filler.
