Can PE flame retardant master batch withstand high temperatures?

Due to reasons such as its light weight, non-toxicity, and excellent insulation performance, polyethylene is widely used in industries such as electricity, chemicals, food, and machinery. At the same time, there is an increasing demand for its flame retardancy, and a large number of PE flame-retardant products have emerged accordingly.

However, Hangzhou Hefu would like to remind everyone that during the process of selecting flame retardants and flame retardant master batches, we should not only focus on the flame retardant performance and environmental protection requirements of the flame-retardant products, but also pay attention to the high-temperature resistance performance of the PE flame retardant master batch. If the selected PE flame-retardant product cannot withstand high temperatures, it will not only affect its flame retardant performance, but may also have an impact on the performance of the finished product itself.

An important indicator here is the decomposition temperature. The decomposition temperature refers to that when the temperature of a polymer in the viscous flow state is further increased, the degradation of the molecular chain will be intensified. The temperature at which the polymer molecular chain is significantly degraded is the decomposition temperature. And the method to measure the decomposition temperature of a product is to test the thermal weight loss index of the flame-retardant product. Thermal weight loss is to make the substance gradually volatilize and decompose by heating it, and measure the change in its weight as the temperature rises. In this way, it can be used to determine certain physical properties of the substance, such as the decomposition temperature and the melting point.

Generally, the 5% thermal weight loss temperature of a flame-retardant product should be at least 20°C higher than the highest processing temperature to ensure the production of ideal flame-retardant products.
