Can the flame retardant for plates be applied to the field of automotive flame retardancy?

The general impression that flame-retardant PP gives people is that it is used in the production of household appliances. In fact, this is just one of the applications of flame-retardant PP. Flame-retardant PP can not only be applied to household appliances, but also widely used in other fields, such as the automotive industry, the electrical industry, etc. Here, we will introduce the application of flame-retardant PP in automobiles.

In fact, the application of flame-retardant PP in automobiles is not extensive, but it is used in key parts. Take the engine as an example. As we all know, during the entire operation of a car, besides the tires, the engine is one of the places with a relatively high temperature. Therefore, there are relatively high requirements for the plastic materials used around the engine. These materials should not only have a certain degree of flame retardancy, but also have a high ignition temperature to prevent spontaneous combustion from causing a fire.

Firstly, flame-retardant PP has a relatively high melting point and a high ignition temperature, which can reach above 850°C. Therefore, even if the temperature of the engine is very high, it will not cause a fire, reducing the probability of accidents. Secondly, the thermal conductivity of flame-retardant PP plastic is relatively low. Even though the temperature of the engine is very high, it will not affect the normal operation of other surrounding components and will not have an adverse impact on the operation of the car. In addition to the engine, flame-retardant PP is also used in other components of the car, such as automotive relays and instrument panels.

However, the flame retardants used in automobiles are different from those used in PP flame-retardant plates. Therefore, the flame retardants for plates generally cannot be applied to the field of automotive flame retardancy.
